purpose of Functional Skills English qualifications is to help you be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write, communicate and listen in English to an appropriate level, and to be able to apply these skills in familiar situations. English will be useful for your career successions and will be recognized by an accrediting body.

This qualification is suitable for students 16-25 and looking to develop practical, transferable skills in English. The Functional Skills Qualification in English is suitable for students, between the ages of 16-25, who are studying the following:

- Traineeships
- Alternative to GCSE
- T-levels
- As a standalone qualification
What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements for this qualification. You will be assessed on your ability and placed to study a Functional Skills qualification at the level that is suitable for you after an initial assessment with an individual learning plan (ILP).
Entry Level 1, 2, 3 and Level 1 and 2
- Entry Level 1- to identify and extract main information and statements reading and writing using punctuation and full stops with capital letters.
- Entry level 2-Learners should practice different types of speaking, listening and communicating. This should include short narratives and explanations and instructions, discussions and straightforward information and instructions.
- Level 1- Take full part in formal and informal discussions and exchanges that include unfamiliar subjects, reading and understand a range of straightforward text and to write a range of texts to communicate information, ideas and opinions, using formats and styles suitable for their purpose and audience.
- Level 2- Make a range of contributions to discussions in a range of contexts, including those that are unfamiliar while making effective presentations. Select, read, understand and compare texts and use them to gather information, ideas, arguments and opinions. Write a range of texts, including extended written documents, communicating information, ideas and opinions effectively and persuasively.
